"This meeting is very important with the presence of all WGSDGI members in order to strengthen SDGs indicators, not only at the national level but at the global level," said BPS Deputy for Methodology and Statistical Information, as well as chair of the ASEAN Community Statistical System (ACSS), Imam Machdi when opening “The 6th ASEAN Working Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators (WGSDGI6)” at the BPS Office, 27/7.
Imam said, to achieve the United Nations agenda regarding Sustainable Development 2030, namely ending poverty and hunger, protecting the planet, ensuring prosperity and fulfilling life for all people, maintaining peace, and revitalizing global partnerships, reliable statistics are needed to monitor and evaluate progress and achievements. at the national, regional and global levels.
However, in reality, the provision of statistics related to SDGs still faces several challenges, such as limited data sources (especially disaggregated and detailed statistics) and lack of coordination between data producing agencies. Therefore, through the WGSDGI meeting it is expected to be able to answer this.
The WGSDGI6 meeting took place in a hybrid manner on 27-28 July 2023 and was attended by representatives from each ASEAN country statistical office and representatives of the ASEAN secretariat. Several important agendas were discussed, including the preparation of the Small Area Estimation (SAE) concept note with Indonesia as the leading country, the Annual Work Plan (AWP), the implementation of the ASEAN Help ASEAN Framework (AHAF), and the development of SDGs implementation related to monitoring and data collection in countries -ASEAN member countries.
