The agricultural sector is still the mainstay and dominates the economic structure of Bengkulu Province. This can be seen from the release of economic growth by BPS Bengkulu Province, Monday, May 6 2024.

The economic structure of Bengkulu Province in the first quarter of 2024 is still dominated by agriculture, forestry and fisheries, which contribute 29.07 percent.
In quarter 1-2024, it experienced growth compared to Quarter I-2023, amounting to 4.64 percent (y-on-y). This growth makes Bengkulu Province occupy the 5th position out of 10 provinces on the island of Sumatra.

In terms of production, the Government Administration, Defense and Mandatory Social Security business fields experienced the highest growth of 18.14 percent. In terms of expenditure, the Government Consumption Expenditure (PK-P) component experienced the highest growth of 18.78 percent.

Meanwhile, in terms of employment, people who work in the informal sector or activities still dominate in Bengkulu Province compared to formal activities.

In February 2024, the population working in informal activities was 697,181 people (64.51 percent), while the population working in formal activities was 383,563 people (35.49 percent). Residents who work in formal activities include those who work with the help of permanent workers and workers/employees/employees, while those categorized as informal activities are self-employed, businesses assisted by temporary workers/unpaid workers, casual workers, and family/unpaid workers. paid.

In terms of education, the working population in Bengkulu Province is still dominated by people with elementary school education or below. Education level can indicate the quality and productivity of the workforce. In February 2024, the working population will still be dominated by those with elementary school education or below, namely 34.49 percent. Meanwhile, the workforce with higher education, namely Diploma and University, is 15.95 percent. The contribution of the working population according to education still shows the same pattern in February 2022, February 2023 and February 2024.
