ELDERLY POPULATION IS AN INCREASING DEMOGRAPHIC GROUP

August 3, 2024 | Other Activities

According to Law Number 13 of 1998, an elderly person is someone who has reached the age of 60 (sixty) years and above. As age increases, human productivity will decrease. This causes the elderly population to generally have lower incomes than the productive age population.

The existence of elderly people who work can be seen as the ability of the elderly to remain productive. However, this can also be seen as an indication of the low level of welfare of the elderly, so they still have to work.

In 2023, 59.49 percent of the elderly in Bengkulu Province were still actively working. The elderly population in rural areas is more likely to continue working compared to the elderly in urban areas.

The increasing life expectancy of a region indicates that the health service and welfare programs of its people are improving. This will be followed by the growth in the number of elderly people. For this reason, the government must also start paying attention to the welfare and service programs for the elderly.
